Accessibility

In short: we want everyone to be able to use Moonpane. We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA, but we have not fully met or tested that yet. Here is what works, what doesn't yet, and how to tell us about a problem.
Our goal
We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. This is a goal, not a claim that Moonpane meets every requirement.
What Moonpane does now
- Motion: the moving city follows your phone's reduced-motion setting. Pause motion on the Home and City screens stops it in one tap, and Settings › Animation › Still keeps it still. The occasional lightning flash comes at most once every nine seconds, and only on the Rich and Max levels.
- Sound: off until you switch it on.
- Keyboard: every control works with a keyboard. Arrow keys move between choices, Escape closes panels, focus stays inside an open panel and returns to where you were when it closes, and the focused item has a visible outline.
- Screen readers: controls have names, each screen announces its title, the moving city is hidden from screen readers as decoration, and wallpaper previews and saved images have short descriptions.
- Text and contrast: text colours are checked against the WCAG contrast minimums on every palette. Text that sits on the moving city has a dark outline to keep it readable.
- Zoom and touch: pinch zoom is not blocked, and buttons are at least 44 pixels tall.
Known limitations
- So far Moonpane has been tested on one iPhone, in desktop browsers and in phone emulators. It has not been tested on a real Android phone, and screen-reader testing with VoiceOver on iPhone and TalkBack on Android isn't finished.
- The city scenes and wallpapers are artwork. Their descriptions are short (the district and palette names), not detailed descriptions of each picture.
- Over very bright parts of a scene, text can still be harder to read than we would like. The Still level or a calmer palette helps, and please tell us where it happens.
- Text selection is switched off in most of the interface to prevent accidental selection while tapping. The steps in the Setup guide can be selected.
- The setup guides describe your phone's own settings, which we do not control.
Report a problem or ask for help
Write to moonpane.support@gmail.com with "accessibility" in the subject. It helps to say which screen you were on, your phone and browser, and any assistive technology you use. Moonpane is a small project, and we will reply as soon as we can.
Updates
We review this statement when Moonpane changes, and update the date above when we do.
